Counseling Services

The licensed professional counselors at PASSNJ provide personal help

in a private and confidential setting. We offer individual counseling on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis to meet your needs. Counseling can help you to: Stay off drugs and alcohol, break old habits, manage stress, and resolve depression, anxiety, and mood swings. Individual psychotherapy can show you how to make the lifestyle changes you need to be successful, and to reach your goals.

Counseling is integrated with many of the program offered by PASSNJ. In our addiction programs, counseling treats the psychological and social components of the addiction. Counseling combined with medication increases the effectiveness of treatment. The federal government has recommended counseling along with the administration of Suboxone for the treatment of opiate dependence.

Counselors at PASSNJ utilize many approaches to help each client meet their needs. Some counseling takes the form of “psycho-education”, to teach you how to better deal with your issues. Other counseling takes the form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to help improve your thinking and habits. Most counselors use a Humanistic or client centered approach, which encourages you to discuss your feelings, and gain insight into yourself.

Counseling may cover several topics including:

Motivation

learning how to motivate yourself even in difficult situations

Education

learning how to keep your addiction/mental illness in remission

Relapse Prevention

learning skills to help you stay off drugs/alcohol

Stress Management

learning how to cope with stress

Recovery Planning

learning how to accomplish your goals

Change Management

learning what stops you from making positive changes

The counselors at PASSNJ will help you deal with your personal feelings, in a caring and supportive manner. Our staff can help alleviate your fears. Let our professional counselors help you be successful.
